It’s a simple case of wanting to give back! I’m very grateful that Bear Behind gives me a flexible lifestyle, and I want to help as many local people as I can with the tools and experience I have at hand — website design. When I see charities struggling with their website, of course, I want to help! And the best way I can do this is by offering a complete website package so that they can build their online visibility, brand and hopefully generate some funds to support their amazing work.
I’ve been involved in charity work most of my life. I’ve been the President of Andover Women in Business and on the committee for the Pride of Andover Awards, and lead the Test Valley Business Awards, I also have a fair bit of other experience volunteering for not for profit organisations. Because of this experience, I’m aware of the challenges that come with funding charity websites, which is why I love to help out where I can.
This is so hard, and I honestly wish I could help every charity that approaches me. However, sadly if I did I wouldn’t have a business long enough to help anyone! So, yes, it’s a tough decision. I pick one charity per year based on who I think needs my help the most.
The chosen charity gets a full web design package including basic maintenance and SEO for a full year. Everything they need to get visible in Google Search and recognised as the reputable charity they are. Many charities are run by volunteers, so I always make sure the whole design and build process runs as smoothly as possible.
